What is winch gear system?

Winch gear system (Termed as WGS) is a motor operated automatic recovery system mounted within the vehicle powered by a 12 volts battery. In off road events when a vehicle stuck WGS can be used as additional support using a rope/cable (Metal & Non-metal) and external support to the vehicle other than the engine. In any situation if vehicle gets stuck somewhere and the vehicle is not able to come out through its power provided by the engine then winch gear can be used as additional support to the vehicle to overcome with the situation.

Limitations
– WGS can be used only in Armageddon race event. In other events format doesn’t allow the use of WGS. Teams may dismantle the system before/after this particular event. WGS cannot be used as reverse gear it is limited to forward movement only. Winching gear cannot be used as towing hitch point.

Why install WGS?

As the vehicle gets stuck in the track during the event and the vehicle needs human effort to come out. As this is a motor vehicle completion teams need to design some other solutions for this rather than using human effort, so keeping this in mind, for the first time we have introduced WGS for vehicle recovery to give a new experience to the teams and driver.

Is WGS compulsory?

No it is optional just like a reverse gear.

Is WGS only for combustion vehicles?

No both electric and combustion vehicles can use WGS, however the power to the WGS motor cannot be given through the tractive system please read the rule book for details.

WGS can be powered by tractive system batteries?

No, Separate battery other than the tractive system to be used to power WGS.
